Fair housing note: Under the federal Fair Housing Act, service animals and assistance animals (including emotional support animals) are not pets. Pet rent, pet deposits, pet fees, breed limits and weight limits generally cannot be applied to them. Pet policies on this site apply to pets only. See our fair-housing note.
Under the federal Fair Housing Act and HUD guidance, a housing provider must generally make reasonable accommodations for people with disabilities who need an assistance animal, even in "no pets" housing. Pet deposits, pet rent, pet fees, and breed, size or weight restrictions generally do not apply to assistance animals. Limited exceptions exist (for example, a specific animal posing a direct threat).
Pet policies listed on PetFriendlyPad describe rules for pets only. Landlords who list with us agree to follow fair housing law. State and local laws may add protections.
